Q2 DataRide 2027 – Cycling Data Hackathon in Mannheim

Less gut feeling, more facts.

On April 16–17, 2027, the Q2 DataRide returns for its second edition at the University of Mannheim. From Friday afternoon to Saturday midday, we’ll work with open data on cycling in Mannheim and bring it together with what no dataset contains: the local knowledge of people who ride these streets every day. The goal is solid, evidence-based input for the city administration and local politics.

This year’s guiding questions

Where from, where to, how many? Mannheim’s cycling and commuter flows Can AI judge whether a bike lane is safe and comfortable?

No coding required You don’t need to be a programmer to join. Developers, data scientists, GIS and OpenStreetMap folks work side by side with everyday cyclists who know where the network works and where it doesn’t.

What came out of 2026 43 people, one afternoon at Mannheim’s Stadthaus: two public dashboards, 20 assessed problem spots in the cycling network handed over to the city, and the finding that Mannheim has the fewest pedestrian crossings per capita in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Organizers and supporters Organized by ADFC Mannheim, QuadRadEntscheid Mannheim and the Scientific Computing Research Group at the University of Mannheim. Supported by the City of Mannheim (Department of Geoinformation and Urban Planning) and ZIV – Die Fahrradindustrie.

We’re looking for sponsors The Q2 DataRide is run by volunteers. For 2027 we’re looking for computing power (GPUs for AI video analysis), data or financial support.
