London Data Week: Mapping festival with Missing Maps Mapathon

Greater London, England, United Kingdom
University College London

7th July 14:00 – 17:00

Location: University College London

Time: 14:00 – 17:00

This event is planned as a “mini” mapping festival, will include three parallel sessions to get your mapping curiosity satisfied. The event will start in a lecture theatre to provide a 20-min introduction to OpenStreetMap and how collaborative mapping works. Then the attendees will have the opportunity to join any of the three groups to learn and work on different mapping activities.

Parallel Activities

  1. Helping humanitarian organisations to map parts of the world that there’s no mapping information. This is a hands-on activity that the missing map volunteers will lead and everyone can participate. This will be led by British Red Cross mappers.
  2. OpenStreetMap data for research. There’s a lot of data available on OpenStreetMap that helps to provide insights about the city. This session will guide the curiosity minded people to find answers to their questions. This will be led by UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis.
  3. Map the university. OpenStreetMap was originally developed at University College London, however, there are areas of the university that remain unmapped. Join this group to complete UCL map. This will be an exploratory and walking activity around campus. This will be led by UCL Advanced Research Computing Centre.
