Liège, Liège, Belgium
ULiège-RISE

20th April 12:00 – 14:00

On 20 April, Geeks Anonymes will welcome Raphaël Marée, a researcher at the Montefiore Institute, University of Liège, for a talk entitled "Understanding the OpenStreetMap ecosystem" OpenStreetMap (OSM) is not just a map; it is a collaborative online mapping project that has brought together more than ten million members since its creation in 2004. Every day, its contributors enrich a free geographical database covering the entire globe using a wide range of tools and technologies. Following an overview of the challenges associated with (digital) maps, this presentation will offer an accessible introduction to the OpenStreetMap ecosystem: its motivations, how it works, its community, the main tools (servers, APIs, applications, etc.) for viewing and reusing the data, as well as ways to contribute, whether as an individual, a business or an institution. Whether you already use OSM or wish to explore its potential, come and discover what makes this project one of the most influential digital commons in the world. Conference language: French.
