OpenStreetMap workshop at FOSS Meetup, Kanpur
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India
Senate Hall, CSJMU, Kanpur
How to participate
We recommend bringing a laptop, a mouse, and a smartphone for this session.
Please remember to click "Attend". You will be asked to create an OpenStreetMap account, if you don't have one already. The same OpenStreetMap account will also be used for adding data to OSM.
When making an OpenStreetMap account, avoid using your real name in your display name. That said, you can always change your display name later.
Consider installing in advance the applications linked in the next section, to avoid issues caused by bad Internet connectivity.
What you will learn
Participants will learn in brief about -
-
What OpenStreetMap is, and why it is important;
-
Organic Maps, OsmAnd, and osmapp.org - freedom-respecting apps which use OpenStreetMap data and provide replacements for apps like Google Maps;
-
StreetComplete, a gamified and freedom-respecting OpenStreetMap editor for Android phones.
-
MapComplete, a simple and freedom-respecting web app to view and edit OpenStreetMap data from mobile and desktop.
Finally, participants will learn to use iD, the browser-based OpenStreetMap editor, to make basic edits from their laptops.
