Was ist Missing Maps?
Den täglichen Weg zur Arbeit oder den Weg zur nächsten Verabredung finden wir in Deutschland relativ einfach durch die Nutzung von Apps auf unserem Handy. Dem zugrunde liegen Karten, die genau zeigen, wo das nächste Café oder die nächste Bushaltestelle ist.
In den Ländern, in denen Ärzte ohne Grenzen international tätig ist, ist das häufig nicht der Fall. Dort sind beispielsweise ganze Städte nicht auf digitalen Karten verzeichnet, sodass es im Fall einer schwerwiegenden Katastrophe schwierig ist, Hilfsmaßnahmen planen zu können, wenn man nicht verlässlich weiß, wie groß eine möglicherweise betroffene Stadt ist. Auch Straßen sind in vielen Regionen nicht digital erfasst, sodass sich im Notfall nur schwer berechnen lässt, wie man am optimalsten zu einem Einsatzort kommt oder wie Bewohner eines Dorfes oder einer Stadt am schnellsten zu einer Gesundheitseinrichtung kommen.
Aus diesem Grund des fehlenden Kartenmaterials wurde 2014 das Missing Maps Projekt ins Leben gerufen. Ziel des Projektes ist genau diese Gebiete mit Hilfe der open-source Plattform OpenStreetMap zu erfassen.
Die Veranstaltung findet auf Englisch statt.
Wer?
Alle sind herzlich dazu eingeladen, Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich. Eine Einführung in das Kartieren erfolgt am Anfang der Veranstaltung. Die Veranstaltung endet um 21 Uhr, es besteht aber keine Verpflichtung bis zum Ende mit zu kartieren.
Es wird Pizza (vegetarisch und vegan) während der Veranstaltung angeboten.

Was brauche ich?
Einen Laptop, Internet, eine Maus (ist nicht unbedingt notwendig, macht das Kartieren aber einfacher und schneller).

What is Missing Maps?
In Germany, we find the daily route to work or the way to the next appointment relatively easily by using apps on our mobile phones. This is based on maps that show exactly where the next café or bus stop is.
In the countries where MSF is active internationally, this is often not the case. There, for example, entire cities are not shown on digital maps, so that in the event of a serious disaster it is difficult to plan relief measures if one does not reliably know the size of a possibly affected city. Roads are also not digitally mapped in many regions, making it difficult to calculate the best way to get to an emergency site or the quickest way for residents of a village or town to get to a health facility.
Because of this lack of maps, the Missing Maps project was launched in 2014. The aim of the project is to map exactly these areas with the help of the open-source platform OpenStreetMap.
The event will be held in English.
Who?
All are welcome to attend, no previous experience is required. An introduction to mapping will be given at the beginning of the event. The event ends at 9 pm, but there is no obligation to map until the end.
Pizza (vegetarian and vegan) will be provided during the event.
When?
Wednesday, 27 September 2023 from 6-9 p.m.
What do I need?
