Venue - https://osmvideo.cloud68.co/user/jan-kv3-iuz-tzg
Time - 18:00-20:00 IST (GMT+5:30)
Date - Saturday, 26th August 2023

Requirements

  1. Basic experience with OSM editing. JOSM experience is preferred, but not necessary.

  2. Laptop or desktop with JOSM installed.

  3. A mouse is highly recommended, even if you have a trackpad.

  4. One or more GPS tracks for any unmapped public transport route(s), preferably with stops/stations recorded as track waypoints or geotagged photos.

Ideally the track will start at the route's starting point and stop where the route ends, but we can work with subsets too.

A public transport route can be made for any of the following, as long as it's open to the public and operates on a fixed route - bus, minibus, coach (interstate bus), train, subway/Metro, tram, share taxi, share auto/Vikram/Gramin Seva, share e-rickshaw, etc.

How do I record a GPS track?

We recommend using OsmAnd for recording tracks and waypoints.

  1. Install OsmAnd on your phone. In OsmAnd, go to Plugins, and enable Trip Recording.

  2. Get into the vehicle whose route you want to record.

  3. Hit the REC button in the upper-right corner of OsmAnd. Set logging interval to Continuous, enable Show on map, and press Start.

  4. (If possible) Make a waypoint for each stop. Long press on the map - Actions - Add track waypoint - Currently recording track. In the Name field, type the name of the stop, and (ideally) whether it has a sign, a bench, a shelter, and/or tactile paving. (It's considered a stop as long as the vehicle stops there and people can board and/or deboard at it - even if it has no other physical markers.) Tap Save.

  5. When the route ends, stop recording by tapping the red record button in the corner - Finish.

  6. When prompted for the file name, add the name and number (and ideally the names of the first and last stops) of the route at the end of the file name. For example -
2023-08-21-21-00_Mon (train) 14521 Delhi Ambala Express,
2023-08-21_21-00_Mon (bus) MC-137D Shastri Park Metro Station - Mayur Vihar Phase 3, etc
