Mapping Downtown Flushing: Put the Map in Your Hands
New York, New York, United States of America
Main Street / Kissena Boulevard
Join us as we walk through Downtown Flushing and add features to OpenStreetMap, an openly editable geographic database. Leave your mark and help improve the map used by NYC government agencies and humanitarian groups.
At this event you will learn what OpenStreetMap is, different ways it has been used across the globe and discover ways that it can be used to improve downtown districts. We will annotate businesses and pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure onto Field Papers, a web app used to generate paper atlases with OpenStreetMap data. At the conclusion of the walking portion of the event, participants will upload their notes and make their edits live.
Note: This is a 3-hour outdoor event so dress according to the forecast and wear comfortable walking shoes. Rain or snow will cancel the event.
