DESCRIPTION:Real-time cartographic improvisations using projected\, manipu
lated digital maps by Eric Theise in dialogue with Kenneth Cornell and Car
los Santistevan’s multi-textured sonic landscapes and noise excavations.
A visual wash of street grids\, land masses\, water bodies\, and curiosit
ies from built and natural environments. Sounds cinematic and mercurial fr
om the dark Southwest's Land of Enchantment. Orphaned labels and free-floa
ting symbology. Auditory roundabouts and acoustic cul-de-sacs. Colors that
clash\, calm\, and fade. Jittery zooms and traversals. Liminal drones. Gl
itchy artifacts from crowdsourced geographies.\n\nThe performance will occ
asionally introduce strobing effects that may affect photosensitive viewer

nEric Theise is a San Francisco-based artist and geospatial software devel
oper. Through video\, performance\, and works on paper he reinvigorates th
e perceptual inquiries of structural filmmakers\, experimental animators\,
the Light and Space movement\, and 60's light shows – with the occasion
al injection of letterform experiments inspired by visual poetry – as ne
w possibilities in the realm of digital cartography.\n\nTheise manipulates
projected digital maps in performance with musicians and other time-based
artists under the banner A Synesthete's Atlas–since its 2022 Lisbon pre
miere it’s been performed in nearly fifty North American and European ci
ties. Theise’s collaboration with composer Shahrzad Talebi was premiered
at the end of March by line upon line percussion ensemble as part of CAST
’s (Contemporary Art & Sound Technologies) inaugural season at dadaLab i
n Austin\, Texas\, and he comes to Albuquerque as part of a follow-on tour
  through Arizona\, New Mexico\, and Colorado.\n\nhttps://erictheise.com/\n
\n\nKenneth Cornell is a sound artist\, improviser\, and musician from Alb
uquerque\, New Mexico. He has worked with electronics\, synthesis\, and va
rious instruments over 3 decades now. His performances and installations
have been in many independent venues\, concert halls\, night clubs\, galle
ries and museums across the U.S. and Ireland.\n\nhttps://bandcamp.com/alch
 emicalburn\n\n\nCarlos Santistevan is a bassist\, sounds engineer\, conduc
tor\, and organizer. Since 2001 he has helped establish an oasis of creati
ve music in the high desert southwest as the director of the High Mayhem E
merging Arts collective based out of Santa Fe\, NM. Using an upright bass
and electronics he creates soundscapes and spontaneous compositions from t
he extremes of acoustic and electric music. Influences of punk and free ja
zz have led him to develop a unique approach to music and improvisation. H
e is quickly becoming recognized as one of the foremost preservers of the
Conduction Lexicon developed by Butch Morris in his Folding Space Conducti
on Ensemble as he continues to cultivate this unique form of musical creat
 ion.\n\nhttps://highmayhem.org/carlos-santistevan/\nEvent Website: https:/
